The City of Drammen
Drammen is set in a beautiful valley, a wonderful touring area surrounding our town's "main street", clean Drammen River with its abundance of fish. Drammen's wide range of attractions appeal to both domestic and foreign visitors, and it is also the perfect place for courses, conferences and meetings.
Central Drammen is bustling with activitiy. Here you will find attractive shopping streets and centers as well as hotels and a host of restaurants and cafés.
Or take a walk along the river, within five minutes of the unique touring area. To get up there, you can pass through the world-famous Spiral Tunnel or make a wilderness walk up Kjøsterudjuvet.
Art, culture, manor houses and museums - plenty of exciting things to see and do.

The River - Our City's Main Street
Drammen grew up on the trade in timber and wooden products. The logs were rafted down the 45-km-long Drammen River. On its shores were until recently a large number of sawmills and paper/cellulose factories. The river was the "main street" on which tug boats carried timber and related products to the mouth of the river. From here, the products were freighted by numerous Norwegian and foreign small ships to all corners of the world.
This is now history - and the river had become one large sewer. However, after a huge effort performed by several parties, the river has been cleaned and it is now again possible to swim here or to fish - the river abounds in fish.
Footpaths and green areas have been established along the banks, to be enjoyed by cyclists and walkers.
Drammen River flows into Drammen fjord, which is 25 km long. Its shores are one large recreational area with cottages and opportunities for bathing and angling, all the way to the narrow rapid Svelvikstrømmen.
